The Diagnostic
Mapping where systems break down. Evidence-based gap analysis, reform concepts, and white papers that name the structural failure, not the symptom.
Systems Thinking & Systems Design
Confluence brings together the three systems that shape a young person’s future: what they learn, where they work, and who makes the rules. We redesign how they interact.
The problem
Education, industry, and policy have long flowed as separate currents across Africa, each moving but rarely in alignment. Young people move through school systems that do not speak to employers. Employers hire from pipelines they did not help design. Policymakers legislate without the feedback of either.
The result is a continent rich in talent and ideas, but structurally disconnected from opportunity. Most interventions treat this as a supply problem: more training, more programmes, more hubs. It is not a supply problem. It is a design problem.
Confluence exists at the meeting point. Not as a bridge between silos, but as the redesigned system where those silos cease to exist.
A confluence does not simply join water. It creates a new force, a new direction, and a new identity from what were previously separate flows.
What we are
Confluence is a Systems Thinking and Design organisation that brings together education, industry, and policy to redesign the pathways between learning and opportunity across Africa.
How we work
We operate upstream of individual interventions, diagnosing where systems break, testing redesigns in the open, convening the people who can adopt them, and building the infrastructure that holds the new design in place.

Mapping where systems break down. Evidence-based gap analysis, reform concepts, and white papers that name the structural failure, not the symptom.
02
Live experiments in systems change. Innovation Clinics and prototype experiences where a redesign is tested with the people who live inside it.
03
Summits and cross-sector convenings that put policy, industry, and education in the same room, with an agenda built from evidence rather than protocol.
04
Tools like TalentDot.V and Jobs360 that make talent and opportunity legible to each other, so alignment survives after the convening ends.
Why we exist
Mission
To redesign the pathways between education and economic opportunity across Africa through systems thinking, applied research, and cross-sector alignment.
Vision
An Africa where every young person moves through a well-designed system, one that connects their learning, their skills, and their ambitions to real economic outcomes.
Purpose
To operate upstream of individual interventions, building the systemic infrastructure that makes education, industry, and policy work together rather than in parallel.
The infrastructure
Convenings produce commitments. Infrastructure produces continuity. Two Confluence products carry the redesign into daily operation.
Talent visibility and skills mapping infrastructure. It records what a person can actually do: verified, portable, and legible to an employer who has never met them.
Employment pathway and employer alignment platform. It shows a young person the full route to a role, and shows an employer where their pipeline actually breaks.
From the diagnostic
Confluence produces research, but a diagnostic that ends in a PDF has not finished its job. Each publication below is tied to a live intervention, a convening, or a product.

We do not build solutions. We build the conditions in which better solutions become inevitable.

Work with us
We convene ministries, universities, employers, funders, and founders. Not to endorse a programme, but to redesign the architecture underneath it.
